5 Tips For Creating A Strategic Instagram Profile

Even with its ever-changing algorithm and non-stop updates, Instagram is still one of the best social media platforms for entrepreneurs and business owners to find their dream clients and market their offers. However, in order to gain your dream clients’ attention, it is so important to have a profile that is follow-worthy and engaging.

In today’s blog post, we’ll be sharing 5 tips to ensure that your target audience clicks that follow button and sticks around to hear more about your stellar product or service.

Let’s get right into it!

  1. Make sure your username is clear and searchable.

First things first – it’s pretty obvious that one of the first things that a potential client or follower will notice about your Instagram profile is your username. The best practice for creating a username is keeping it simple. Try to avoid using random letters, numbers, or phrases that you may have used when you came up with your first email (I mean, don’t we all have a username or two we regret?)

You also want to make sure that you include on-brand keywords that your potential client or customer may be looking for when searching on the ‘gram. If you’re a photographer, having the words “Vancouver Photographer” in your name line can help your profile get noticed by the kind of customers or clients you want to attract.

  2. Include informative information about your brand in your bio.

Think of your bio as your virtual “elevator pitch” on Instagram. This section of your profile should appeal to your target audience and make them excited about the possibility of working with you. When writing your bio, you want to aim to make it informative enough that it tells your dream client what you exist for without being too wordy or vague.

Keep in mind that Instagram bios have a maximum of 150 characters, so curating a couple of sentences that tells the crowd you’re looking for how what you can provide them is exactly what they need.Let’s say you’re an event planner – an example of a strategic Instagram bio would be something along the lines of this: “We specialize in custom & creative events in Vancouver and beyond.”

  3. Add a link that will allow your dream clients to get a clearer picture of how you can help them.

Once your dream client finds your profile, reads through your bio, and scrolls through your feed, they may hopefully have that gut feel instinct that your product or service is just what they’re looking for.

While we believe that having a thoughtfully designed website for your clients to get the full picture is always a good idea, we understand that some start-up brands and businesses may not have the budget to invest in web design right away. In that case, we recommend adding an inquiry form or link of some sort where your target audience can book your services or purchase your product if needed. However, if you are ready to take the leap and are looking for a brand and website design studio who could build your brand a website that best suits your needs, we’d love for you to reach out!

  4. Make the last line in your bio a “Call To Action.”

Ever heard of a call to action? If you haven’t, it’s basically a phrase that prompts your dream client to follow through on an action. An example of a CTA you could use is “Click the link in bio to book your spot!”Having a CTA as the last line in your bio can help encourage your clients to commit to purchasing something from your business or booking one of your services – which is always the end goal!

  5. Use story highlights sparingly to showcase the most important info.

While story highlights are a fun way to share lots of different aspects about yourself and your brand, you also don’t want to overwhelm your followers and make the most important information unclear. We think that anywhere between 3-5 highlights is the sweet spot. As people love knowing the face behind a brand, we’d recommend highlights that capture the why behind your biz, your services, and some kind words that some of your past customers or clients have left you along the way.We understand that these tips can vary or look different depending on what your business provides, but we hope that these 7 tips can serve as inspiration to have your business or work revolve around your life, and not the other way around. After all, isn’t that what being an entrepreneur is all about?
