Highlights Of Our Eight Years In Business

It’s crazy to think that 8 years ago, when I was just approaching my 22nd birthday, I started my design business. At the time, it was a side-hustle stationery shop and a freelance design business where I accepted any and every design job that fellow friends or family sent my way. I had no clue what I was doing or what I wanted out of it. I just knew I was doing something I loved. For the spark notes version of my story, click here for a reel recapping 8 years in business. (It sure was hard to fit 8 years into 90 seconds!)

some of the highlights over the years include:

  1. Working with my mom

She guided me every step of the way during my first 4 years in business. As a fellow business woman herself, she had so much knowledge to share and I am so blessed to have gotten that support from her. I surely wouldn’t be where I am today without her.

  2. SIgn installations

For a couple years, my business was known for doing sign installations. It started with my first big branding project for Sabà Café + Bistro, when they asked me to install signs on their storefront. I was working at a print shop at the time and knew the basics of how to install a vinyl sign, and did 1 or 2 small ones around the shop. Without thinking I just said yes and the rest is history! Pretty soon I was offering sign installations for not only my own branding clients, but other local businesses started reaching out too. I had lots of fun and was doing 1 or 2 installs a week for a steady amount of time. But pretty soon as my name started getting out there, I was doing more brand & web design projects and I simply couldn’t be in two places at once. So, I decided to scale back on the installs and put my focus onto the brand & web design side of my business that was booming. Best decision!

  3. Establishing my studio as a Brand & Web Design Studio that works with female entrepreneurs in the beauty, wellness, lifestyle, and creative industries

I personally truly love all things beauty, wellness, lifestyle, and creative. It fuels me and gives me so much passion to work with likeminded individuals. Working with my first client in the beauty industry, Ambition Salon, was such a treat and a catalyst for making a name for myself within that industry. Pretty soon more beauty projects followed and I’ve gotten to work with amazing brands like Jaeda Marie MakeupK’pure NaturalsSupercrushCoastal Skin, and more!

  4. Hitting 6 figures in year 5 and onward

I honestly wasn’t sure if I was going to mention this one. It seems as though there’s this fascination with design businesses reaching that 6 figure mark. There are business coaches who’s soul purpose is marketing themselves to designers as an expert on ‘how to make 6 figures in your design business’. That’s great and all, but it can create severe imposter syndrome. There’s so many factors that go into hitting that mark. For me it was completely organic, and I’m very proud of myself for that. For me, it’s worth mentioning because it was a huge personal goal of mine, even before it became an ‘it’ thing in the industry. But if you’re reading this, in ANY industry, just know that hitting that mark does not define you or your business. If you are happy and love what you do, that’s the main thing! Just keep working, keep networking, and you’ll hit the goals you set for yourself organically.

  5. Adding amazing creatives to the V&CO team

I’ve had the pleasure of having some amazing people apart of the V&CO team in the last couple years. Being able to have other creatives apart of our team who are awesome at what they do just enhances our brand and allows us to offer even better services for our clients. It’s such a dream to work with others who believe in what we do and who lend their support. I’ve got big dreams for the future!

We’re so excited for what our eighth year has in store for our studio. Fingers crossed, we’re hoping that this year will be our best yet! As always, thank you for your continued love and support of V&CO – it means more than you’ll ever know.

That’s all for now friends, thanks for stopping by!
